Seeking Fellow Fat Guy

You read that right. I’m officially seeking a fellow fat guy for a long-distance relationship (romance unwanted and unnecessary). Here’s the thing…The Apple Watch has a nifty feature which I know little of. I’m essentially only aware of its existence: Sharing Rings. It’s just another form of accountability and I believe the goal is to add people you know so you’ll have a whole new way to judge your friends. I intend to look into this tomorrow and see if there’s a way to be matched with a similar human walking a similar path....

Still Kickin' After 9 Rounds

It’s been a while since I’ve posted a video update, but it seemed appropriate for today. I wanted you to get a look at my red face and sweat soaked hair so you know I put in some work. I haven’t yet watched the video, but I’m pretty sure I didn’t give an explanation of what the 9 round workout is all about; so real quick: There are 9 stations....

What's Killing My Water Intake

Prior to starting this journey, I had quite the Diet Mt. Dew addiction. I gave it up because of all of the horrible things people had told me about the artificial sweetner it uses, Aspartame. There is a lot of misinformation surrounding this substance and plenty of articles (such as this one) that debunk most of it. Still, I can’t help but think that if one must have a fizzy beverage, one sweetened with Stevia is a better choice....

Building New Routines

My daily walk has become routine. Routines are good for me (positive ones, anyway), so I’m trying to intentionally build some new ones. I’m not organized by nature, but these days that’s okay. There are simply too many tools available to make excuses. I know for some people, organization, strict schedules, and routines come naturally. Not so for me (and many like me). For me, I have to have a system in place....

My New Old Hoodie

My scale seems to be stuck. I fluctuate between 227 and 228. I’ve been out of the 230’s for long enough that I don’t think I’ll be seeing them again, but I’m really ready to get on the other side of 225. I do think that I’m gaining muscle. After Covid my lungs were not great. In fact, they weren’t great for months. The slightest bit of exertion (like walking from the bedroom to the kitchen) would have me breathing hard....

Starting Week 6

As promised, back on the daily supplements plus one men’s multi-vitamin. Tomorrow, I’ll not only be starting my day with a good amount of capsules filled with all natural things that I don’t understand the scientific benefits of, but I’ll also start with some sort of heart revving cardio workout from the Fitness+ app. I remember seeing a documentary on Nova a few years ago about these Australian (maybe?) doctors (I think) who claimed that a morning sprint (not run… sprint …as fast as you can) could be more beneficial than a gym membership....

Physical Therapy Day 1

Today is day one of physical therapy to thaw my frozen shoulder. I’ve never had any sort of PT, so I’m still undecided as to whether or not I need professional guidance, or if this is a problem solved by repeatedly doing some exercises I can see demonstrated on YouTube. I also kept my promise and did a core workout this morning, plus a 2 mile walk (all before 1 p....

Frozen Shoulder

My right shoulder has been bothering me for about eight months and now I know why. I have Frozen Shoulder, a.k.a. Adhesive Capsulitis. I’m not in constant pain, which I am grateful for, but the pain can go from 0 to blackout level with one wrong move (ask me how I know.) I can get it slightly above parallel and no more. Kind of a marching zombie position, I guess....

This Is Amazingly Good

Today I received a very encouraging note…from my phone. I’ve been wearing a smart watch for a couple of years now and I typically receive ‘high heart rate’ warnings throughout the day. My resting heart rate has been in the upper 120’s for some time and would jump into the 140’s from a not-so-brisk walk around the neighborhood. Not good. Today, I got a notification from my phone that my resting heart rate had decreased 😌...

My M.R.I. Experience

This will be a quick one, but I did want to share a couple of things I learned today: An M.R.I. machine is only slightly wider than me. When the time comes, cremation may be the better option. I had to do 15 minutes in the tube today in order to find out what’s wrong with my shoulder. I’m usually pretty good at closing my eyes and putting myself somewhere else when I have to be in an uncomfortable situation, but that was a stretch today....
