Today I received a very encouraging note…from my phone. I’ve been wearing a smart watch for a couple of years now and I typically receive ‘high heart rate’ warnings throughout the day. My resting heart rate has been in the upper 120’s for some time and would jump into the 140’s from a not-so-brisk walk around the neighborhood. Not good.

Today, I got a notification from my phone that my resting heart rate had decreased 😌

Without the watch, I would likely have never noticed this particular metric, but I’m certainly happy about it. If you’re on a similar journey, this is definitely worth keeping tabs on. Even though the scale didn’t give me any good news to share this week, it’s hard to get discouraged when I’m greatly reducing the chances of a stroke or heart attack.

Brook joined me for a walk today. We had talked about traveling to somewhere unfamiliar, but with church, grocery shopping, and visiting two different animal shelters looking for a dog 1, we didn’t have the chance. We did manage just over two miles around the lake. It was a bit chilly at first, but we kept a good pace and warmed up pretty quick.

  1. We didn’t bring home a dog today, but I really liked this dog. He’s been stuck there a couple of weeks, likely due to prejudice against his breed ↩︎
