Disclosure: I’m not the man in the picture. 1

I posted yesterday about joining a gym, but after researching 2 of the 3 available in my area (within a few miles from my house), I decided to take a pass. Planet Fitness requires you to provide them with a bank account number, not just a debit card. I worked for a large bank for a while and learned the difficulty of canceling an ACH transfer. It’s pretty much impossible without closing your account. That seemed like a shady practice and there were plenty of reviews confirming that they had issues with being charged after canceling, unusual fees, etc. Pretty much the same story for the other local chain-gym and I have no desire to get involved in any such thing…So, now what?

There was one local fitness center that had stellar reviews, but may be out of my league at this point. It’s called 9round Fitness and it’s based around a circuit training program. 9 stations, 3 minutes each, 30 seconds “active rest” between each station. I would love it if I could do this, but there are some cons:

  1. My heart may literally explode by station 2
  2. It’s not cheap

I know if I’m going to make real change, I have to step out of my comfort zone, so I’m excited about giving it a shot, but I’m definitely nervous. From what I’ve read, the first station is jumping rope. 3 minutes of jumping rope may be trivial for you, but it’s going to be a struggle for me (even without having 8 other stations to visit.) They claim “all fitness levels”, but as Jack Nicholson’s Joker once said, “Wait’ll they get a load of me."

My appointment is Tuesday @11. If you don’t hear from me after that, you’ll know the “all fitness levels” thing was just some marketing 💩.
